Curriculum

Your child will learn through rich, hands-on experiences in the forest and on the farm, across all areas of development, led by certified teachers.

In the Wildflower community, your child will be immersed in nature, Montessori inspired hands-on learning, and forest exploration. Our days are guided by the seasons, your child’s interests, and the natural world around us.

Inspiring curiosity, connection with nature, and growing in community, on the farm!

From feeding farm animals and gathering eggs to woodworking, nature-based art, and forest exploration, every moment is an opportunity for discovery on the farm. Our outdoor learning environment is intentionally prepared to encourage your child’s independence, curiosity, and become stewards of the environment.

What to Expect

Rooted in Montessori principles and nature-based education, each session is thoughtfully designed to support early childhood development through:

  • Hands-on Farm Experiences & Practical Life Skills – Children help care for animals, collect eggs, and engage in homesteading activities to encourage independence and self-confidence.

  • Montessori-Inspired Child-Led Learning – Our Montessori-inspired outdoor classroom offers materials and activities tailored to children’s interests that develop the whole child and deepen their understanding of our farm animals and nature.

  • Unstructured Nature Play – We value play above all else. Free play in the forest fosters creativity, problem-solving, and social development especially with our multi aged group of children!

  • Sensory-Rich Exploration – Messy mud and art play, natural science discoveries, and tactile learning experiences are ample on our farm and forest setting.

  • Community – Children enjoy community tea time around the campfire, collaborate on group projects,  and gain confidence in a supportive, mixed-age environment.

A Typical Day as a Wildflower

We always leave room for magical moments to unfold in nature, but here is a glimpse of what your child can expect each day as a Wildflower…

  • Arrive

  • Feed animals and gather eggs

  • Community tea around the fire - sometimes we just chat other times we will do a book reading or a short lesson.

  • Children choose activities to explore in the outdoor learning area or join a group project.

  • Lunch

  • Hike to forest area

  • Unstructured free play in forest

*The structure of the class is flexible and will ultimately depend on children’s interests and needs.

Wildflowers Curriculum

Our outdoor learning environment and nature itself IS the “curriculum” at Little Farm Nature School. I believe that the child’s environment is the greatest teacher. We have a holistic approach to learning where all areas of learning naturally weave into everything we do at the farm and forest as the child leads into their own play and exploration.

The areas in which your child will be learning can be categorized as such:

  • Practical life activities develop the whole child as well as knowledge of important life skills. There are endless opportunities for this on the farm. For example, preparing food, caring for animals, gardening, woodworking, fire starting, arranging flowers. As well as learning handiwork skills such as felting, sewing and whittling. This is a valuable kind of play that supports their coordination and control of movement as well as many other benefits that develop the WHOLE child. We also teach important skills that have been lost in our modern day world such as baking bread, canning, candle and cheese making.

  • The farm and forest offers children the most sensory rich environment possible and we take advantage of that to the fullest. Children are allowed to get as dirty and messy as they’d like because we see this as a developmental need to refine and integrate all of their senses.

  • Art, music and self expression is valued on the farm. We believe in process art where the child can fully use their own creativity and self expression. Most days this will look like an easel with art materials to paint outdoors. Children can make handmade musical instruments from items in nature.

  • The best way to learn science is through direct experience in nature in all seasons. On the farm, children explore a variety of science concepts, including animal science, food literacy, plant and animal identification, foraging, and discovering the medicinal uses of wild forest plants. They also engage with physical science concepts through hands-on experiences in the natural world.

  • We view language development as a natural part and progression of the development of the child. Children who are experiencing an interest in this can find utensils to write on our outdoor chalkboards, play games with our alphabet rocks, join in on a nature scavenger hunt and enjoy journaling about nature and animals and project making.

  • Children are born with a mathematical mind. They come out of the womb seeing patterns and absorbing other mathematical concepts and this is nature’s amazing design to prepare children for the world. On the farm, they’re given many opportunities to absorb mathematical concepts from playing and building with different materials, counting eggs, to measuring baking and being involved in our school fundraisers.

  • We believe in the benefits of unstructured free play. This just means during free play time adults are observing and we try our best not to interfere or interrupt unless it is absolutely needed. We value PLAY above anything else at LFNS because it is the foundation of which children are able to educate themselves.

Enrollment & Tuition

Tuition Structure:

Fall 2025 tuition is $240 per month. The Fall semester includes 12 classes from September to November making the monthly tuition $60 per class.

Application Process:

Step 1: Apply

Apply early, as spaces are limited to ensure a small, intimate community.

Step 2: Tour

After applying, you may be invited to tour the farm where you will have the opportunity to meet our staff and get questions answered.

Step 3: Secure Your Spot

By paying your first month’s tuition, your child’s spot is secured for the semester. Continued monthly payments will maintain enrollment.

We can’t wait to meet you, Wildflower!

What Parents are Saying

  • “This program was a perfect addition to our homeschooling. Callie provided an experience I couldn’t replicate at home—caring for animals, witnessing sheep births, and learning responsibility. My son grew in confidence, expanded his skills, and loved showing us the results of his hard work. As a former educator, I appreciated the emphasis on free play, which was especially great for my high-energy child. By the end of the day, he was exhausted and didn’t want to leave. I highly recommend this program to all parents!”

    -Meredith, Wildflowers Parent

  • “My son had a wonderful time at Little Farm Montessori summer camp! He loved getting to spend the week learning about cows, playing outside, and being with friends. As a parent I appreciated the structure of learning but also ample space and time to explore whatever interested him most. Calli and her assistant teachers provide a fun and safe environment for kids to be in nature, and just be kids!"

    -Brittany, Summer Camp Parent

  • “This outdoor preschool is absolutely amazing! My child learned important skills while playing outside in nature. It truly offers the best of both worlds—education and outdoor exploration. If you’re searching for a great preschool, I highly recommend looking into this one!”

Meet Your Teacher

Calli Stipe, Little Farm Nature School Director

I’m a Palouse native, farmer’s wife, flower garden lover, and busy mom to three boys! My passion for working with children began early in my life and led me to study Early Childhood Development at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. There I discovered Montessori education and went on to receive my Montessori Certification in Boise.

I opened my own Montessori Preschool and that also offered Montessori parent & child classes to support parents wanting to implement the Montessori method at home for several years.

Throughout my teaching experience, I always felt like something was missing. It wasn’t until I learned about the benefits of outdoor education and observed it firsthand with my own children that I discovered the missing piece—immersion in nature and the farm.

It brings my heart so much joy to see children learning how they were meant to learn - in the great outdoors. I’m thrilled to offer this program and can’t wait to meet you!

We inspire a lifelong love of learning and nature for our community of learners ages 0-12. Through our farm-based, hands-on, Montessori-inspired experiences, we cultivate curiosity, confidence, and connection to the land, animals and sustainable living.
